Women's Basketball Gameday #4: Babson

The Corsair women's basketball steps out of conference play on Wednesday evening, as UMass Dartmouth (1-2) entertains Babson (2-0) in a non-league clash at the Tripp Athletic Center that tips-off at 6:30 pm EST.
 
Head Coach Matt Ducharme's squad picked up its first win of the young campaign last Saturday afternoon with an 84-46 Little East Conference triumph over Plymouth State at Foley Gymnasium in Plymouth, N.H.  Junior Jordan Moretti (Johnston, R.I./Johnston), the reigning Little East Player of the Week, led the way with 20 points, seven assists and six rebounds for the visitors, who received 15 points and seven boards from fellow junior Caroline Wilson (Forestdale, Mass./Sandwich) along with 10 points from junior Jessica Carroll (Deep River, Conn./Mercy).  Freshman Jemima Joseph (Somerville, Mass./Somerville), the reigning Little East Rookie of the Week, notched a near double-double performance of nine points and nine boards for the Corsairs, who received nine points from junior Shaelyn Carriero (Fall River, Mass./Durfee) as well as seven caroms from senior Lauren Empey (Middleboro, Mass./Middleboro).
 
Babson is off to a perfect start under veteran Head Coach Judy Blinstrub, as the Beavers out of the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference swept a pair of non-league decisions from Fisher (88-42 & 70-35) last weekend at Staake Gymnasium in Babson Park, Mass.
 
UMass Dartmouth and Babson are meeting for the first time since New Year's Eve of 2018, as the Beavers overcame a second half deficit to notch an 85-77 victory over the Corsairs in the championship game of Babson's Judy Pearson Memorial Tournament at Staake Gymnasium in Babson Park, Mass. 
 
Wednesday night's matchup marks the eighth all-time meeting between UMass Dartmouth and Babson in a series that began during the 1984-85 campaign.  The Corsairs hold a 4-3 edge over the Beavers in the seven previous meetings.
