Women's Basketball Gameday #8: Castleton

The Corsair women's basketball team hits the road to close out Little East Conference regular season play on Saturday afternoon, as UMass Dartmouth (4-3, 4-2 LEC) heads to Castleton (1-5, 0-5 LEC) for a league clash.  Tip-off at Glenbrook Gym in Castleton, Vt. is set for 2:00 pm EST.

Winners of three straight and four of their last five outings, Head Coach Matt Ducharme's Corsairs have been idle since completing a weekend Little East sweep of Keene State with a 70-55 triumph over the Owls last Sunday afternoon at Spaulding Gymnasium in Keene, N.H.  UMass Dartmouth overcame an eight-point halftime deficit with a 30-point third quarter outburst, as junior Jordan Moretti (Johnston, R.I./Johnston) led the way with a double-double effort of 16 points and 11 rebounds.  Fellow juniors Shaelyn Carreiro (Fall River, Mass./Durfee) and Caroline Wilson (Forestdale, Mass./Sandwich) each added 12 points and six boards for the visitors, who received 11 points from junior Jessica Carroll (Deep River, Conn./Mercy).

Castleton looks to end a three-game slide on Saturday afternoon, as Head Coach Tim Barrett's Spartans dropped a 65-54 Little East home decision to Keene State on Wednesday evening.  The Corsairs are looking for a regular season sweep of the hosts, as UMass Dartmouth claimed the first meeting of the year between the two squads by a 70-62 margin two weeks ago at the Tripp Athletic Center on the strength of Moretti's 24-point performance.

The Corsairs have won all five previous meetings with Castleton since the Spartans joined the Little East prior to the 2018-19 campaign.
