Moretti Paces Women's Basketball To 84-46 LEC Victory At Plymouth State

PLYMOUTH, N.H. --  Junior Jordan Moretti (Johnston, R.I.) scored 20 points (including four three-pointers), dished out seven assists and grabbed six rebounds to lead three players in double figures, as UMass Dartmouth notched an 84-46 Little East Conference women's basketball victory over Plymouth State Saturday afternoon at Foley Gymnasium.
 
The visiting Corsairs (1-2, 1-2 LEC) jumped out to an eight-point first quarter advantage (21-13) before blitzing the host Panthers (0-2, 0-2 LEC) with a 30-point outburst in the second stanza that featured a 15-1 run in the final 5:27 of the half.  Moretti accounted for 16 points and six assists in the opening 20 minutes of action to propel UMass Dartmouth to a 51-20 edge at the break, and the Corsairs increased that margin to as much as 42 points (69-27) in the second half.
 
Junior Caroline Wilson (Forestdale, Mass.) added 15 points (including a trio of treys) and grabbed seven rebounds in the win for the visitors, who received 10 points from fellow junior Jessica Carroll (Deep River, Conn.).  Freshman Jemima Joseph (Somerville, Mass.) came off the bench to record a near double-double effort of nine points and nine boards for UMass Dartmouth, which collected nine points and five caroms from junior Shaelyn Carreiro (Fall River, Mass.).  Freshman Kaylin Zalewski (Johnston, R.I.) chipped in with six points and five rebounds for the Corsairs, who received seven boards from senior Lauren Empey (Middleboro, Mass.).  Eleven of the 12 players dressed scored at least two points for the visitors, who shot 45 percent (30-67) from the field overall and held a 56-30 advantage on the glass for the contest.
 
Sophomore Alessia Salzillo (Saugus, Mass.) scored 16 points and pulled down four rebounds in the setback for Plymouth State, which received 12 points and five assists from sophomore Jalen Cook (Bristol, Vt.) as well as eight boards from freshman Sabrina Vlahovic (New Hope, Pa.).  The Panthers shot 24 percent (13-55) from the floor overall and were outscored by a 32-6 margin in the paint on the day.
 
UMass Dartmouth hosts Babson in a non-league outing on Wednesday evening at the Tripp Athletic Center that tips-off at 6:30 pm, while Plymouth State entertains Castleton in a Little East Conference clash on Wednesday evening at Foley Gymnasium that tips-off at 6:00 pm.
