The Corsairs captured their second straight contest when entering the final period tied 2-2.
UMass Dartmouth (2-0) cracked the scoring column late in the opening period, when junior
Jimmy Pelton (Syracuse, N.Y.) gathered his own rebound and deposited the puck into the open net. Sophomore
Justin Weinbrenner (Allison Park, Pa.) and first-year
Elliot Burgin (Columbus, Ohio) were credited with helpers to send the visitors into the intermission leading 1-0.
Franklin Pierce (1-2) evened the contest at the 2:12 mark of the second stanza, but senior
Dillon Radin (Long Beach, N.Y.) regained the Corsairs' advantage four minutes later. Radin created the scoring chance by forcing a turnover and side-stepped a Raven defenseman at the blue line to create a breakaway. He cashed in his second goal of the season, beating the Franklin Pierce goaltender five-hole. The Ravens converted a power-play opportunity at the 12:37 mark to forge the final tie of the contest.
UMass Dartmouth gained control of the contest in the early stages of the third period, when the Corsairs netted two markers within the span of 84 seconds. Freshman
Zach Tarantino (Jackson, Ill.) delivered the decisive shot from the left circle for his first collegiate goal. Classmate
Cade Hanley (Bozeman, Mont.) snuck a wrist shot from the right point to double the visitors lead at 4-2. UMass Dartmouth continued to apply the offensive pressure as junior
Blake Harlow (Pelham, Ala.) took advantage of a Raven defensive miscue to break in alone and bury his first goal of the campaign from the right circle. Senior
Kai Kapossy (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) recorded an empty net insurance marker within the final minute of regulation to seal the victory.
In between the pipes, senior
Parker Butler (Summit, N.J.) recorded 20 saves to earn his first victory of the season, while classmate Ian Wallace (West Islip, N.Y.) was credited with 37 stops.
UMass Dartmouth held a 43-22 advantage in shots, but were unable to convert four power-play opportunities. The Corsairs limited Franklin Pierce to one extra-man goal on two opportunities.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 7:30pm on Saturday, March 6, when the Corsairs and Raven complete the two-game set at Winchendon Academy.
