Corsairs Win First LEC Game Over Castelton, 4-1

Kylie Dias scored two goals in the contest

DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Senior Kylie Dias scored twice to give her five on the year, while senior Hannah Steen tallied her first goal of the season and 5th-year senior Brittany Perry recorded her seventh score of the campaign to boost the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth field hockey team over Castleton, 4-1, Saturday morning at Cressy Field.

The Corsairs (2-5, 1-1 LEC) outshot the Spartans (2-4, 0-1 LEC) 15-6 and 9-2 on goal. UMass Dartmouth also had six corners compared to four for Castleton.

Castleton's Emily Harris put the road team on the board first with an unassisted goal at 9:30 into the game to make it 1-0 at the end of the first quarter.

It was all Corsairs after that. UMass Dartmouth outshot Castleton, 6-0, in the second quarter and tied the game. After a penalty corner, Steen and senior Hannah Niemi found Dias for the equalizer.

Dias did it again at the 39:38 mark of the third quarter. This time the assist was from freshman Jenna Carvalho to give the Corsairs a 2-1 lead.

UMass Dartmouth posted two more goals in the fourth. Steen capitalized on her first score of the season off an assist from junior Mya Amaral at the 49:19 mark. Perry notched her seventh goal of the year from freshman Harley Hodge with 55:17 on the clock to finish things off.

The Corsairs travel to Clark for a non-conference matchup at 7:30 p.m.
