UMass Dartmouth Drops MASCAC Opener at Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth football team opened its Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) schedule with a 45-21 loss at conference favorite Framingham State.

The Corsairs (2-1, 0-1 MASCAC) scored the first touchdown of the game, before the Rams (1-2, 1-0 MASCAC) put up 38 unanswered points, to put the game out of reach by the end of the third quarter.

Offensively for UMassD, sophomore Dante Aviles-Santos threw for 195 yards and a touchdown, freshman Marvens Jean rushed for 48 yards and a score, and 5th-year senior Douglas Machado finished with 67 yards and a TD. Junior wide receiver Diondre Ellis tossed a 20-yard touchdown pass to junior Luis Gonzalez as well.

5th-year senior Marcus Elysee led the Corsairs with nine tackles, while 5th-year senior Sean Reall had eight and senior Javien Delgado collected seven tackles.

It took just over a minute for UMass Dartmouth to strike. Aviles-Santos connected with Machado for a 57-yard touchdown pass and catch to give the Corsairs a 7-0 advantage with 13:47 on the clock.

Framingham then scored 38 straight points. the Rams scored on a 42-yard fumble recovery, a 14-yard touchdown pass, a 21-yard rush for six, a 23-yard field goal, a 15-yard TD pass and a 3-yard run to make it 38-7 at the end of three quarters.

Ellis found Gonzalez with 14:48 left in the fourth to make it 38-14. The Rams put six more on the board with a 22-yard run. Jean took home a 3-yard touchdown in the closing minutes as Framingham ran out the clock when they got the ball back.

The Corsairs are back at Cressy Field on Saturday against Worcester State for a noon kickoff.
