CASTLETON, Vt. - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's tennis team stayed perfect with a 6-3 win at Castleton Saturday afternoon.
The Corsairs improve to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in the Little East Conference, while the Spartans fall to 2-3 and 0-2 in LEC competition.
"Without our regular lineup, we needed players to step up, and they did," said Head Coach
Doug Chapman. "
Yasemin Kurtis was outstanding in singles, and in doubles with
McKenzie Ferrari, who moved from first doubles from third. The A-Team of
Alanna O'Connell and
Ailey Riddicktook care of business, together and individually. I was pleased with how hard
Jordan Beals and
Kamryn Kobel, who made her collegiate debut, competed. We have to be very pleased with a 3-0 start"
Starting with doubles, the pair of Kurtis and Ferrari won 8-2, while O'Connell and Riddick took their match, 8-1.
Winning for the Corsairs in singles were Kurtis (6-1, 6-0), O'Connell (6-0, 6-0), Riddick (6-3, 6-0) and Ferrari in a hard fought match (7-6, 3-6, 14-12).
The Corsairs are back at home for a match against Clark at Somerset Berkley Regional High School at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
