Hot-Shooting Corsairs Wallop WestConn, 110-55

Seven scored in double figures; Azor records fourth triple-double

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Seven members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's basketball team scored in double figures en route to a 110-55 shellacking of WestConn Friday night at the Tripp Athletic Center.

The Corsairs (14-2, 6-1 LEC) shot a blistering 18-of-26 (69.2%) from beyond the arc. UMassD flipped the script on the LEC's best defense, holding WestConn (10-8, 4-6 LEC) to a season-low 55 points on 35.3% shooting and 10.5% from deep, while the home team piled up its most points all year.

Marcus Azor posted his nation-leading fourth triple-double of the year with 10 points, 14 assists and 13 rebounds, while adding five steals and two blocked shots. Graduate student Jake Ashworth led the scoring charge with 18 on 6-of-9 from distance. To round out the starters, senior Sean Leahy and junior Jackson Zancan each finished with 14 points, and senior Adam Seablom notched 13.

Off the bench it was sophomore Mike Eurquhart with an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double, and senior Dhalyn Sanders-Dyer provided a spark with 15 points in 12 minutes. Junior John Martins Jr. chipped in nine points in 11 minutes of action.

UMass Dartmouth blew the doors off early. Azor accounted for five assists and the Corsairs knocked down six triples in the first eight minutes to take a 22-5 lead with 12:09 to go in the first half.

After WestConn went on an 8-0 run, Ashworth connected on his third 3-ball of the night to spark a 23-9 UMass Dartmouth run with a pair of threes by Zancan and one by Seablom, to take a 46-22 advantage into halftime.

The second half was much of the same. Seablom started it with a 3-pointer and Azor rose for a fastbreak slam. Seablom and Ashworth then knocked down triples and Eurquhart finished a dunk to make it a 65-34 lead with 11:45 to go.

UMass Dartmouth tallied 17-consecutive points to make it 84-40 with 6:33 on the clock. Azor then needed three points to secure his triple-double and pulled up for a straight on 3-ball and stuck it to extend the lead to 94-48. Sanders-Dyer went off for all 15 of his points in the final 7:23 to finish it off.

The Corsairs are set to battle for first place in the LEC when they travel to Keene State (14-3, 9-1 LEC) for a 6 p.m. showdown.
