DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's soccer team celebrated its four seniors prior to its Little East Conference (LEC) matchup against Eastern Connecticut State University. Seniors
Jacob Harper and
Noah Rosa, along with fifth year
Gabe DeOliveira and grad student
Denser Martinez walked the field with their families before their final game at Cressy Field.Â
The Corsairs (2-11-4) stayed competitive with the Warriors (11-5-2) through the first half, but three second half goals lifted Eastern Connecticut over UMass Dartmouth, 4-0.
Junior
Joey Paiva and sophomore
Justin Petrillo had opportunities in the first half but ultimately did not find the net. A late goal from Eastern Connecticut freshman Matthew Kessler in the 44th minute gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead at intermission.
After a back-and-forth first half, Eastern Connecticut came out of the break on the attack and sophomore Logan Brennan was scored off a corner kick in the 58th minute. Junior
Brandon Araujo had a solid strike on the net that took a great save from East Conn's goalkeeper Dylan Pallanck to keep the Corsairs scoreless. Not three minutes later, freshman
Cameron Aguiar struck a rocket at the goal which careened off the crossbar.
UMass Dartmouth did not have many more opportunities to score after that. A couple of more goals from the Warriors would ice the game, one coming from a penalty kick from freshman Niall O'Brien, and the other from sophomore Christian Hohulin in the 82nd minute.
UMass Dartmouth will now prepare for the 2023 season.
