DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Junior Brandon Araujo found the back of the net with five minutes remaining in the game to force a 2-2 draw against Mass. Maritime Tuesday night at a rainy Cressy Field.
The Corsairs move to 0-5-5 on the year and remain unbeaten at home, while the Buccaneers are now 1-7-2. Sophomore Justin Petrillo and Araujo were the goal scorers for UMass Dartmouth, while junior Brayan Rivas Martinez and sophomore Lucas Passaro each had an assist. Junior goalkeeper Jack Waterhouse made two saves.
Freshman Harry Cooley scored both goals for Mass. Maritime. Sophomore Ryan Soughou picked up an assist on the first and junior Jesus Sanchez had the helper on the second.
The Corsairs opened the scoring midway through the first half on Petrillo's goal in the 20th minute. UMass Dartmouth held the one-goal lead the remainder of the first half into the break.
In the second half, the Buccaneers made the most of their early second half attacks, getting two goals in the 49th and 50th minutes from Cooley. Maritime held on to their one-goal lead after erasing the deficit for 35 minutes.
UMass Dartmouth found a way through and scored the game tying goal in the 85th minute when Passaro found Araujo. The Buccaneers had a chance in the final second of the game on a long shot but it was squandered by Waterhouse, keeping the game at a 2-2 tie.
The Corsairs outshot the Buccaneers 19-10 in the match and 10-4 on goal. UMass Dartmouth also had nine corner kicks to Mass. Maritime's one.
UMass Dartmouth is at Keene State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
