DARTMOUTH, Mass. -Â Junior
Michael Eurquhart Jr. posted a double-double with 12 points, 13 rebounds and added three blocked shots in the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's setback to Kean, 81-73, in the LaFrance Hospitality Tournament Championship Saturday afternoon at the Tripp Athletic Center.
5th-year senior
Dhalyn Sanders-Dyer tallied 14 points, four assists and four rebounds, while freshman
Nic Boyd finished with 14 points on 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Senior
Jackson Zancan recorded seven points and six assists and senior
John Martins Jr. had eight points with a pair of triples.
It was an evenly-matched game throughout, Eurquhart scored the first bucket after an offensive rebound and Boyd hit two three's, while junior
Isaac Percy sunk one from the beyond the arc as well to give the Corsairs a 14-9 lead with 14:23 to go in the first. After Kean evened the score at 14, sophomore
Theo Jadotte scored inside and Martins Jr. stuck a 3-ball to push the lead to 19-14 at 11:24.
Kean had an answer for every UMass Dartmouth basket but the Corsairs maintained their lead as Martins Jr.'s triple brought it to a 26-20 advantage with 8:32 in the half. The Cougars then scored 10 straight points and finished the half on a 23-6 run to take a 43-32 lead into halftime.
UMass Dartmouth quickly made it a game again, going on a 22-7 run with a pair triples by Sanders-Dyer, a three by Boyd and inside buckets by Eurquhart, Percy and Jadotte to take a 54-50 lead with 12:12 to go.
Kean then scored three baskets in the paint to take the lead and never gave it up for the remainder of the game. Eurquhart, Zancan and junior
Jayquan Leonard all scored to cut the deficit to 68-62 with 4:25 left, but the Cougars took control down the stretch to come away with the eight-point win.
