HOOKSETT, N.H. – Umass Dartmouth exited the Stovepipe Tournament with two losses, following a defeat to Tufts on Sunday. The Jumbos' three second period scores lifted them over the Corsairs, 3-0.

UMass Dartmouth drops to 3-5-2 on the year, while Tufts secures their first win of the season and advance to 1-4-0.

The contest began slow, with a scoreless first period. Each team had two power-play opportunities that they did not capitalize on. The score was 0-0 at the break.

 The Jumbos would take advantage of a power-play in the second period, however, with a goal from freshman Chris Throndson 8 minutes in. Tufts would go on to tally two more scores in the period. The goals came from Jumbos' freshman Liam O'Hare and junior Aiden Lovett. The Corsairs allowed 21 shots on goal during this frame. Tufts would hold a comfortable lead of 3-0 going into the final period.

Not unlike the first period, the final stanza would be scoreless. The Corsairs out-shot Tufts in the period for the first time in the contest, 15-11. Tufts also gave the Corsairs opportunities to come back into the game with three penalties resulting in Mass Dartmouth power-plays. Once again the Corsairs were unable to  execute on the man advantage, and they would go on to lose the matchup 3-0.
Tufts' freshman goalkeeper Gustave Bylin had a great performance with 32 saves and no goals allowed, and came away with the shut out victory. UMass Dartmouth junior goalkeeper Daniel Davidson tallied 42 saves in the loss.
The Corsairs were out-shot by the Jumbos 45-32. Tufts University won the battle on face-offs 41-28. This game concluded the Stovepipe Tournament for the Corsairs.
UMass Dartmouth returns to the ice on Saturday when they visit Westfield State in a MASCAC matchup. The contest will take place in Westfield, Mass. at 5:35 PM.Â
