Corsairs Roll in a 90-59 Win Over Plymouth State

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's basketball team was dominant in their second Little East Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Corsairs cruised to a 90-59 win on the road at Plymouth State.  
 
UMass Dartmouth's first conference win of the season advances them to a 4-5 overall record and 1-1 in the LEC. Plymouth State falls to 4-6 and begin their Little East schedule 0-4. 

Juniors Teja Andrews and Kaylin Zalewski led the way for the Corsairs with 20 points each. Zalewski also stole the ball from the Panthers five times, dished five assists and brought in five rebounds. Andrews had five assists and four rebounds. Grad student Jordan Moretti scored in double figures with 11 points, and freshman Melanie DeMeo scored 12 points while going 6/6 from the free throw line. 
 
Plymouth State saw three players put up 10-or-more-points, led by senior Sarah Sweet with 16 points on 4/8 from three. The Corsairs brought the pressure on defense in this contest, forcing the Panthers to shoot just 32% from the floor, and 25% from behind the arc. 
 
UMass Dartmouth shot the ball well, converting on 45.9% of their field goal attempts and 42.3% from deep. The defense for the Corsairs helped them in putting points on the board, scoring 34 points off the 26 turnovers they forced. They also scored 24 fast-break points to the Panther's 6. UMD won the battle inside the paint as well, scoring 20 more points there than Plymouth State. 
 
The Corsairs jumped out ahead with a 12-0 run in the opening five minutes of play, and never looked back. In fact, UMD never trailed in this game. They went into halftime leading the Panthers 43-27. The Corsairs pulled even further ahead in the third and fourth quarters, and ended the game on a 18-6 run. UMass Dartmouth out-scored Plymouth State in every quarter.

UMass Dartmouth is not quite done with the 2022 portion of their season. The Corsairs will travel to Northampton, Mass. for the Smith Holiday Tournament on Dec. 30 & 31. They will first face off against SUNY Poly on Friday at 3 pm.
