Corsairs Skate to 1-1 Draw at Framingham State

Senior Jimmy Pelton went unassisted for UMassD's lone goal

Framingham, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth hockey team battled Framingham State to a 1-1 draw Tuesday night at Loring Arena.

Senior Jimmy Pelton scored the lone goal fot the Corsairs (8-13-2, 5-10-2), who see their losing streak come to an end. Freshman Andrew Miller scored from classmates Ashton Collazo and Dylan Marty for the Rams (2-17-1, 1-13-1 MASCAC).

After a scoreless first period that saw the Rams take 17 shots to just 13 for the Corsairs, the Rams got on the board first midway through the second period. Miller stuffed a shot past the Corsair netminder off feeds from Marty and Collazo for the 1-0 lead.

The Corsairs tied the game just over six minutes into the third. The Rams turned the puck over behind their net and Pelton collected the loose puck and placed a shot into the back of the net, knotting the game, 1-1.

The Corsairs had a chance at the go-ahead goal with six left to play when graduate student Dillon Radin had a look from the right side, but the framingham goalie came up with the save. Neither team was able to find the back of net down the stretch and the game went to overtime tied 1-1.

The Corsairs had a chance one minute into the extra session when sophomore Stephen Perreault had a shot straight on, but was saved. The Rams had a chance on the power play two minutes later when Patrick Colgan fired a shot from the right wing, but junior goaltender Daniel Davidson came up with the save for the Corsairs. Neither team could connect down the stretch and the game ended in a tie.

The Corsairs held a 63-39 advantage in shots for the game, while neither team converted on the power play in the game.

UMass Dartmouth hosts Westfield State at 3 p.m. on Saturday for its senior day. The Corsairs will honor Jimmy Pelton, Dillon Radin, Parker Butler, Chris Stangarone, Blake Harlow, Griffin Wiencek, Kai Kapossy, Pat Twombly, Melker Kroon and Derek Britner.
