Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Memorable Run Comes to a Close in Sweet 16

Friday marked the final game for Ashworth, Azor, Leahy, Santos and Seablom

ASHLAND, Va. - The historic and memorable season for the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's basketball team came to close Friday night in the Sweet 16 at No. 1 Randolph-Macon, 92-69.

Senior Marcus Azor capped off his record-setting career with 20 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Junior Jackson Zancan finished with 16 points and made two 3-pointers, while senior Adam Seablom notched 10 points and six boards. Graduate student Jake Ashworth and senior Sean Leahy each chipped in seven points, and sophomore Isaac Percy tallied six points.

Many milestones were achieved during the 2021-22 season. Ashworth hit 1,500 points and finishes his career ranked 10th on the all-time scoring list with 1,659 points. Azor, 5th-year Jarron Santos and Seablom each notched 1,000 points as well. Azor reached the 500 assist mark, and has the most assists in a single season with 244.

Azor became the first player in Little East Conference (LEC) history to earn the Player and Defensive Player of the Year twice, doing so in back-to-back seasons, and currently leads all players across all NCAA divisions with five triple-doubles, and those 244 assists. Seablom and Ashworth were also named First Team All-LEC, while Brian Baptiste was recognized as the LEC Coach of the Year for the second-straight season.

26 wins was the second most in program history. Baptiste finishes the year with 696 career wins.

Friday marked the final career games for Ashworth, Azor, Leahy, Santos and Seablom.

It was a fast-paced first 13 minutes of action as the teams raced out to 32-all with 6:43 left in the first. Azor, Zancan and Seablom all sunk triples in that stretch, and Azor had a big dunk to keep the momentum on UMass Dartmouth's side. After a tip-in by Percy tied the game at 32, Randolph-Macon closed the half on a 12-2 run to take a 44-34 lead into the break.

A Seablom three cut the deficit to eight points, 54-46, with 14:58 to go. But the Yellow Jackets outscored the Corsairs, 38-23, for the remainder of the game.
