NEWPORT, R.I. -Â The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth lacrosse team dropped a non-conference contest at Salve Regina Wednesday night, 19-6.
Sophomore
Melanny Sanchez Alvarez tallied five goals for the Corsairs (1-3), while classmate
Hannah Mitus chipped in one goal. Senior Nicole Smith led the Seahawks (3-0) with six scores, while freshman Holly Sullivan had four.
Salve Regina picked up its first goal 30 seconds into the game and added six more in the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead.
Sanchez Alvarez put the Corsairs on the board to start the second, but the Seahawks outscored UMass Dartmouth 6-1 for the reaminder of the half. Sanchez Alvarez had the second goal for UMass Dartmouth on free position as it was a 13-2 advantage at halftime.
Salve notched five more goals in the third to extend its lead to 18-2 at the end of the quarter.
Sanchez Alvarez scored three more times in the fourth to up her total to 20 on the year, while Mitus picked up her first of the season.
UMass Dartmouth is at home on Saturday for a 1 p.m. start against Wentworth.
