CLERMONT, Fla. - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth softball team utilized masterful pitching performances in game one against Penn State-Dubois, and took game two over Mount Mary in five innings, to remain unbeaten, advancing to 7-0. Penn State-Dubois falls to 1-4, while Mount Mary drops to 3-9.
VS. PENN STATE-DUBOIS

Jill Richards and senior
Anna Kerwood combined for a one-hitter in the circle as UMass Dartmouth took down Penn State-Dubois, 6-1.
Richards started and went five innings, earing the win, and allowed one run on one hit with 11 strikeouts and one hit batter. Kerwood threw the final two innings and did not give up a hit and struck out two. Richards led the team at the plate as well, finishing 2-for-4 with a two-RBI double.Â
The only run for Penn State-Dubois came across in the first. A hit batter who stole second came around on an RBI single.Â
UMass Dartmouth tied the game in the second. Sophomore
Dyonna Rodas was hit by a pitch and eventually came around to score.
Five more runs crossed in the third. Junior
Victoria Rossetti led the inning off with a single and stole second, then 5th-year senior
Leah Major drove her in with a base knock. Sophomore
Hailey Lyons then reached base on an error to set up Richards, who doubled home Major and Lyons. Rodas then got on base due to an error and scored on a single from freshman Larisssa Piessens to make it 6-1.
With the five-run lead, Kerwood breezed through the final four innings to secure the victory.
VS. MOUNT MARY
It only took five innings for UMass Dartmouth to beat Mount Mary by a score of 11-3.
Major was 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Lyons finished 2-for-4 with three RBI. Freshman
Kinu Takasugi drew three walks, scored twice, and drove in a run.
Sophomore
Kaitlyn Shirshac kept the theme of strong pitching going. She struck out seven batters over five innings with three runs on four hits.
The Corsairs broke the game wide open with six runs in the second. one run scored on an error, the second was an RBI single by Rossetti, three and four were on a two-RBI double by Major, Lyons drove in the fifth with a single, and the sixth run scored on a fielder's choice.
Both teams scored twice in the third. UMass Dartmouth did so on a sacrifice fly by Takasugi, and an RBI single from Major to make it an 8-2 game. Three more runs were plated in the fifth on a caught stealing at second where senior
Averi Soares scored from third, and Major and Lyons each had RBI singles to put the run rule in place.
