DARTMOUTH, Mass. -Â Sophomore
Melanny Sanchez Alvarez reached and eclipsed the 50-goal mark this season, finishing with seven scores, in the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's 21-9 setback to Eastern Connecticut Saturday afternoon.
Also scoring for the Corsairs (2-12, 1-4 LEC) were junior Kim Hockhausen and sophomore
Claire Petersen. The Warriors (8-5, 3-2 LEC) had two players score five goals in junior's Jessie Pyrek-Bennett and Shay Vantresco.
Sanchez Alvarez pocketed her first two goals by the 8:44 mark of the first to give the Corsairs a 2-1 advantage. Eastern finished the quarter with five-straight goals in the final six minutes to go ahead, 6-2.
After the Warriors scored the first four goals of the second, Sanchez Alvarez scored from sophomore
Widline Thomas to make it 10-3. Eastern sent one more home to make it 11-3 at the half.
A strong third quarter kept the Corsairs in the game. Sanchez Alvarez scored twice for her 50th of the season, while Petersen and Hockhausen and each scored to keep it at a 16-7 score heading to the fourth.
Sanchez Alvarez had two more goals in the fourth, but Eastern won the quarter, 5-2.
