Dear Members of the UMass Dartmouth Community,
With great sadness, I write to tell you that Wilcar "Willy" Moreno '23, a business student and member of the baseball team, has passed away following a courageous battle with cancer. Wilcar was on leave this semester due to his diagnosis but was still actively part of the Corsair community. He cared deeply about his family and also about his teammates, who will remember Willy as someone who was full of joy and positivity.
Please know that we are here to support students who need help processing this painful event. Confidential counseling services are available through our Counseling Center and the Center for Religious and Spiritual Life. The Counseling Center is open 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and telehealth appointments may be scheduled by calling 508.999.8648. The Center for Religious and Spiritual Life has campus ministers from several faith traditions who provide confidential pastoral counseling and can be reached at 508.999.8872. For faculty and staff impacted by this loss, please reach out via our Employee Assistance Program.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Willy's family, friends, teammates and classmates at this very sad time. Let us remember Willy for his resilient spirit and his love of life and learning. He will be sorely missed by everyone at UMass Dartmouth.
Sincerely,
