UMass Dartmouth Breaks Program Wins Record at Roger Williams

The Corsairs scored 11 runs in the fourth inning to run rule the Hawks

BRISTOL, R.I. - The 2022 version of UMass Dartmouth softball is now the winningest team in program history, capturing victory number 28 with a 16-0 thumping at Roger Williams in five innings on Wednesday.

The Corsairs improve to 28-8-1 on the year, the team is ranked fourth in the NCAA Region II poll, and has won eight games in a row. UMass Dartmouth has now swept the Hawks, who drop to 7-27, in the home-and-home series.

Freshman Larissa Piessens finished a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored, while sophomore Hailey Lyons was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and a run scored. Junior Lynsie Miracle also went for three hits with a run batted in and a pair of runs scored. 5th-year Jill Richards and senior Lindsay Chubbuck each had two hits on the day. UMass Dartmouth's 16 runs came on 19 hits.

Richards, who secured her 15th win of the year, sophomore Kaitlyn Shirshac, and freshman Ella Beaulieu combined to limit Roger Williams to three hits with seven strikeouts.

UMass Dartmouth set the tone with three runs in the first inning. Piessens and Chubbuck each doubled to make it 1-0. Richards then singled and stole second to put runners on second and third, and Lyons doubled to left field to bring them both home.

The Corsairs put the game away with 11 runs in the fourth. A pair of errors allowed freshman Kinu Takasugi to score, Piessens singled in Miracle, and a single by Chubbuck, and a double from Richards made it 8-0. UMass Dartmouth was not done yet as senior Averi Soares, Miracle, and freshman Emily Wilkinson all singled in runs. An error and a fielder's choice eventually brought the score to 14-0.

The final two runs of the game came on an RBI base hit by senior Kate Condon, and an RBI groundout from Takasugi. Beaulieu struck out the final batter for the Corsairs' 28th win of the season.

UMass Dartmouth closes the regular season at WestConn on Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m.
