DARTMOUTH, Mass. -Â The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth softball team dropped both games of its doubleheader against No. 8 Eastern Connecticut State, 4-0 and 5-1, Tuesday afternoon at the UMass Dartmouth Softball Complex.
The Corsairs drop to 14-6-1, while the Warriors improve to 18-4.
GAME ONE
UMass Dartmouth ran into the great pitching performance of Eastern's senior Morgan Bolduk, who threw a complete-game three-hit shutout with eight strikeouts.
All of 5th-year senior
Jill Richards' runs against her were unearned, as the pitcher went seven innings with five K's for the Corsairs.
Three of the four runs came in the third inning for the Warriors. With two runners on base, a throwing error allowed both to score and advanced a runner to third. A sacrifice fly then made it 3-0.
The fourth and final run of the game crossed the plate in the fourth. A leadoff walk and a sacrifice bunt put a runner on second. That run scored after a fielding error.
GAME TWO
Senior
Lindsay Chubbuck hit her team-leading third home run of the season in the fourth inning for the Corsairs' only run of the day. Freshman
Larissa Piessens finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate.
Three runs crossed in the fourth for Eastern. A walk and a double put two runners in scoring position. An error then allowed the first run to score, and an RBI goundout made it 2-0. The third run of the inning came on an RBI single. Chubbuck then led off the home half of the fourth with a bomb over the left-field fence.
A solo home run in the sixth extended the Eastern lead to 4-1, and a sacrifice fly in the seventh finished it off.
