Tournament Run Comes to a Close in LEC Championship

The Corsairs made it to the finals for the fourth time under Head Coach Bob Prince

MANSFIELD, Conn. - The magical Little East Conference (LEC) Tournament run for the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth baseball team came to a close at the hands of No. 1 Eastern Connecticut, 16-1, in the championship game Saturday afternoon at the Eastern Baseball Stadium.

The Corsairs finish their season with an 18-23-1 record after advancing to the final round of the LEC Tournament for the fourth time under Head Coach Bob Prince and third time in the last five seasons. The Warriors (39-3) advance to the NCAA Tournament after winning the LEC Championship for the first time since 2016 and 10th conference title total.

Eastern Connecticut led from start to finish. The Warriors put up four runs in the second inning on three-straight base hits and a sacrifice fly, and tacked on one more in the third on an RBI double to make it a 5-0 lead.

UMass Dartmouth's lone run came in the bottom of the third when freshmen Chase Pariseau, Devyn Vezina, and senior Chase Stafford loaded the bases. Junior Andrew Bryant then put the ball in play and reached on a fielder's choice, and an error allowed Pariseau to score and cut the deficit to 5-1.

The Warriors added three more runs in the fifth, six in the sixth, and two in the seventh to put it away.

UMass Dartmouth returns a strong core of players in 2023 and will look to build off this championship appearance.
