MANSFIELD, Conn. -Â The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth softball team was limited to one hit against top-seeded and No. 4 nationally ranked Eastern Connecticut, falling 4-0 on Friday, and now faces an elimination game at 3:40 p.m. later in the day.
The Corsairs see their 12-game winning streak come to end and fall to 32-9-1 on the season. The Warriors improve to 36-4 and await either UMass Dartmouth, Castleton, or Southern Maine in the championship series on Saturday.
Eastern's senior pitcher Morgan Bolduk threw a complete-game shutout, allowing one hit with seven strikeouts, and walked just one batter.Â
A leadoff double and an error allowed the first run to score for Eastern, and an RBI base hit extended the lead to 2-0 in the second inning.
With the bases loaded in the third, the Warriors used a base knock to make it a 3-0 lead.
5th-year senior
Leah Major had the lone hit for the Corsairs in the fourth. A single to center led to a stolen base, and Major eventually advanced to third, but was stranded.
The score was brought to 4-0 in the sixth on an Eastern RBI double. UMass Dartmouth threatened to bring across a run in the bottom of the sixth. Freshman
Kinu Takasugi reached on an error, stole second, and took third, but the Corsairs stranded her.
UMass Dartmouth will play an elimination game against Castleton at 3:40 p.m. on Friday for its second game of the day.
