WATERVILLE, Maine -Â The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's tennis followed up its 9-0 victory on Saturday with a 7-2 win on Sunday at Thomas College. It was a happy homecoming for freshman
Bailey Clarke, who returned to her home state of Maine to help the Corsairs to a 2-0 record on the weekend. Clarke only lost one game in four singles sets in the two matches.
The Corsairs improve to 4-1 on the season, while the Terriers drop to 1-3.
The first doubles duo of juniors
IsaBella Winter and
Ailey Riddick continued their strong start to the season, winning their match, 8-5. Also winning their doubles match was senior
McKenzie Ferrari and junior
Caroline Lemieux, who won 8-4, to give the Corsairs an early 2-1 match lead.
Clarke was the first from UMass Dartmouth to wrap up her singles match, winning in convincing fashion, 6-0, 6-1. Senior
Alanna O'Connell was next, taking her match 6-0, 6-2, to make it a 4-1 advantage in the match. Riddick then put it away, 6-0, 6-2, while Winter (6-1, 6-0) and sophomore
Claire Yang (6-4, 6-3) won as well to finish off Thomas.
Head Coach Doug Chapman on the match:Â "Bailey had been looking forward to this weekend since the start of the season, and she played like it in front of a large contingent of family and friends. IsaBella and Ailey were 2-0 in singles and doubles for the Corsairs. O'Connell and Yang were also 2-0 in singles and had wins in doubles."
UMass Dartmouth remains on the road for its next match at the University of Saint Joseph on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
