UMass Dartmouth Suffers Setback at Plymouth State

Brayan Rivas Mmartinez scored for the Corsairs

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Junior Brayan Rivas Martinez put the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth up early, but Plymouth State scored five unanswered goals to hand the Corsairs a 5-1 loss Saturday afternoon on the road in the Little East Conference (LEC) opener.

The Corsairs fall to 0-2-3 and 0-1-0 in the LEC, while the Panthers improve to 4-0-1 and 1-0-0 in the conference.

UMass Dartmouth came out strong in the first half and had 13 shots to six and five to two on goal after the first 45 minutes. Rivas Martinez got it started in the 11th minute when he was fouled inside the '18 and took advantage of a penalty kick to mak it a 1-0 advantage.

The Corsairs had a few other scoring opportunities and controlled the pace of play for the remainder of the first half.

Plymouth State turned it on in the second half. Sophomore John Christie evened the score in the 51st minute. The Panthers scored two more goals in less than two minutes when sophomore Walter Driscoll went unassisted and junior Faisal Abdallah found the back of the net on a double assist to extend the lead to 3-1 in the 59th minute.

Freshman Lucas Hollingworth and Driscoll tacked on the final two goals to put it away.

UMass Dartmouth returns to the pitch at Roger Williams on Sunday at 1 p.m.
