DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The Bridgewater State women's tennis team posted a narrow 5-4 victory over UMass Dartmouth in Little East Conference action on Monday afternoon. The Bears improve to 6-2 overall and remain perfect in conference action, while the Corsairs move to 5-4 with a 2-2 LEC mark.
In doubles action, the Bears picked up the first point of the match from two, but the Corsairs countered as senior
Caroline Lemieux and sophomore
Zuri Walters posted an 8-4 win over BSU's Yasmine Queen and Sam Bettencourt.
UMass D made it a 2-1 lead at one as senior captains
IsaBella Winter and
Ailey Riddick defeated the Bears' duo of Madeline Von Ruden and Mackenzie Silveira, 8-5.
Heading into singles action, the Corsairs made it a 3-1 lead as Winter won from the first flight with a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Von Ruden. Three was next off court as Allison Carter posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Riddick, while at five, Meghan Lotti was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Lemieux to tie the match at 3-all.
Two was next off court as Silveira recorded a 6-2, 6-4 win against Walters, while sophomoreÂ
Bailey Clarke gutted out a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory over Queen to make it a 4-4 score.
The match came down to six as Bettencourt faced off against Corsairs rookie
Cristina Avila. After a back-and-forth battle, Bettencourt prevailed with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 win against Avila to earn the match victory.
UMass Dartmouth returns to the courts on Wednesday, welcoming Rhode Island College in Little East action at 3:30pm.
