Field Hockey Tripped Up at Clark

Corsairs fall 3-0 to Cougars in non-conference action

WORCESTER, Mass. – Powered by three goals in the third quarter, Clark University defeated UMass Dartmouth, 3-0 in non-conference field hockey action on Tuesday evening. The Cougars move to 5-11 on the season, while the Corsairs slip to 3-13 overall.

After a pair of scoreless quarters to open the game, it was the homestanding Cougars that broke onto the scoreboard in the third stanza. Off a feed from Jenna Beauchain, Elizabeth Cacciapagl banked a shot in past Corsairs junior goalie Hannah Trombly at 31:15.

The Cougars opened the margin to 2-0 minutes later as Alison Kopec sent a pass across to Fionnuala Gormley at the 34:02 mark. Kopec went on to assist on Clark's third goal of the game, netting her second helper with a pass to Greer McCarty, who banged it home at 42:01 for the three-goal advantage.

In the final quarter, the Corsairs worked to get on board. Rookie Sam King sent a shot in that went just wide and the Cougars defense held strong, limiting the visitors to the one-shot attempt in the final frame to secure the 3-0 victory.

For Clark, Alexandra Cacciapagl earned the win, playing all 60 minutes. She was not forced to make a save. In the Corsairs net, Trombly was outstanding, recording a season-high 20 saves despite the defeat.

UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Saturday, hosting VTSU Castleton in the regular season finale on Cressy Field. Game time for the Little East match is set for 12pm.
