NEW BEDFORD, Mass. – Behind goals in each period, including two from rookie winger Max Wennerberg, Anna Maria College posted a 4-1 victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in non-conference action on Tuesday evening at Hetland Arena. The victory moves the AMCats to 7-3-0, while the Corsairs slip to 4-6-0 on the season.
Anna Maria opened the scoring at 9:12 of the first period, capitalizing on the power play as sophomore defender Pearce Baker sent the puck over to rookie center Chris Friberg. He caught a speeding Wennerberg, who banked it in past UMassD goalie
Daniel Davidson.
Wennerberg added his second of the contest at the 18:24 mark, corralling a feed from sophomore defender Bryden Sinclair for another power play tally. Baker earned his second assist of the evening on the 2-0 goal.
In the second period, the AMCats took advantage of the extra-man opportunity once again, this time from senior defender Cam Tobey as he banked in a pass from junior defender Derek Raposo to push the visitors out to a 3-0 margin. Friberg was credited with the second assist.
In the third period, the Corsairs lit the lamp at 16:22 as grad winger
Michael Perrone sent a shot from the top of the circle low to senior center
Michael Mania as the home team pulled Davidson for a 6-on-4 advantage. Looking to the high slot, Mania fed the puck through to grad defender
Jake Maynard who one-timed it from the top of the right circle to make it a 3-1 game.
The Corsairs, who pulled Davidson once again after the goal, were unable to capitalize once more as Anna Maria saw senior winger Samson Mouland score on the empty net at 18:27. UMassD continued to press with shots from sophomore winger

Cade Hanley both being stopped in the final minute by AMCats goalie Matt Hennessey.
In addition to Wennerberg, the AMCats saw sophomore center Brandon Della-Paolera post a 12-23 mark from the faceoff circle. Senior center Matt Gilbert was 6-10 from the circle, while Friberg was 10-17 in faceoffs. In goal, Hennessey recorded 26 saves for the victory.
The Corsairs saw Davidson record 26 shots in the defeat, including 12 in the opening period. Rookie defender
Nolan Wutzke recorded a game-high five blocked shots, while Hanley and Maynard each had four blocked shots. Mania was 10-21 from the circle, while rookie center
Connor Little had a 10-17 margin on faceoffs.
The Corsairs are back on the ice on Friday, traveling to Dudley, Mass., for a 6:40pm contest against Nichols College.
