NORTON, Mass. – It was a split decision Friday afternoon as the UMass Dartmouth softball team went 1-1 in doubleheader action at Wheaton College. The Corsairs (11-5) won game two by a 3-0 margin, while the Lyons (8-4) posted a 7-0 win in the opener.
Game two action saw the Corsairs strike early as sophomore second baseman
Larissa Piessens launched a double into left center. That brought grad student and catcher
Lindsay Chubbuck to the plate as she drove the ball deep into left for the 2-0 advantage.
UMD struck again in the top of the fifth as junior hurler
Kaitlyn Shirshac singled to right, advancing to second as rookie outfielder
Sydney Menz grounded out. With two outs on the board, grad student and shortstop
Leah Major singled to center to bring in the run.
Shirshac pitched a gem for the Corsairs, improving to 6-0 after allowing just two hits and no runs over 7.0 innings. She struck out five batters, allowing just walk.
The opening game saw the homestanding Lyons score four runs in the bottom of the fourth, adding three runs in the bottom of the sixth for the final margin. Agan led the way for Wheaton, going 4-for-4 with a run scored and two runs batted in.

Jill Richards shouldered the loss, allowing four runs on six hits in 3.2 innings. She struck out five and walked two. Sophomore
Rahne Turley came on in relief, while classmate
Ella Beaulieu allowed three runs (2 earned) on five hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
Knopt paced Wheaton in the circle with no runs allowed on just four hits over 7.0 innings. She posted a walk with four strikeouts.
The Corsairs are back in action on Tuesday, hosting Babson in non-conference doubleheader action beginning at 3pm.
