Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The UMass Dartmouth softball team used timely hitting and solid pitching to sweep action on Monday in The Spring Games in Florida. The Corsairs posted a 4-3 win over Marietta in the opener, followed by a 3-0 win against Thomas to conclude the day. UMD improves to 3-1 on the season.
In the afternoon opener against Marietta, the Corsairs battled back from a 2-0 deficit after three innings to tie things at 2-all. Down two outs in the frame, grad student and catcher
Lindsay Chubbuck singled to center field. Following a pinch runner change, graduate student and pitcher
Jill Richards stepped up to the plate, cracking the ball over the left center wall to make it a 2-2 contest.
A quiet fifth inning gave way to another run for the Corsairs in the bottom of the sixth as Chubbuck homered to left field, making it a 3-2 UMD lead.
In the seventh inning, Marietta saw Campbell single up the middle, driving in a run, but a walk and back-to-back singles from grad student

Dyonna Rodas saw the Corsairs bring another run across the plate as the home team held on for the victory.
Chubbuck went 2-for-3 on the afternoon for the Corsairs, driving in an RBI and a run scored, while Richards brought in a run scored and two RBI's. In the circle, Richards improved to 1-1 on the season going the full 7.0 innings as she allowed three runs (just two earned) with seven hits. Striking out six, Richards walked just two batters.
In the afternoon finale against the Terriers, the Corsairs broke open the contest in the top of the third. Sophomore infielder
Larissa Piessens opened with a single to left, advancing to second on an error. After a sacrifice bunt from senior infielder
Victoria Rossetti advanced the runner to third, junior pitcher
Kaitlyn Shirshac singled down the left line to drive in Piessens for the 1-0 lead.
On the next at-bat, Rodas drilled the ball into left field for a two-run shot and the 3-0 lead. For the game, Rodas went 1-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored, while junior third baseman
Hailey Lyons was 1-for-2. Shirshac earned the victory for the Corsairs, allowing no runs on just three hits over 6.0 innings of work. She struck out four and walked just one. Sophomore
Ella Beaulieu came on for the final inning of relief, striking out one batter with no hits or runs allowed.
For the Terriers, Kelsey Currier went 7.0 innings, surrendering three runs on six hits. She struck out four with three walks. At the plate, first baseman Riley Giblin went 1-for-3 with a double, while second baseman Kaylee Fonseca was also 1-for-3.
The Corsairs return to the field on Tuesday with games against Lebanon Valley (2pm) and Otterbein (4:30pm) in Winter Haven.
