Women's Lacrosse Out-Lasted by Husson

BANGOR, Maine – UMass Dartmouth women's lacrosse team trailed 4-3 to Husson University at the midway point of the Tuesday afternoon's meetup. The Eagles (1-0) outscored the Corsairs (1-2) 6-to-1 in the second half to come away with the 10-4 win.   

After a close opening two quarters of play, Husson had a slight shot advantage of 14-to-12 and went into the half leading the Corsairs by just one, 4-3. Junior Widline Thomas highlighted UMD's first half with three goals. 
 
The Eagles came out in the second half with their foot on the pedal. Their first score of the half came at the 14:35 mark in the third quarter from sophomore Natalie Whitten off a pass from senior Sophia Gomez. Husson kept the scoring coming with back-to-back goals from their sophomore Maddy Benoit (ast. by Veits) and senior Devyn Veits (ast. by Whitten).
 
The Corsairs answered the three-goal stretch with own of their own from junior Natalia Agrelo who scored unassisted. Agrelo's goal brought the score to 7-4 at the end of the third quarter. 
 
Husson was able to put a stamp on the contest with three more, unanswered goals in the final frame. The scores came from Gomez and freshman Averi Baker who netted two. Baker led the way with a game-high four goals. Baker's final two goals extended the lead to 10-4, the eventual final.
 
Leading the way statistically for the Corsairs was Thomas with three goals, seven ground balls and six caused turnovers. In the net, senior Payton Conceicao stopped 12 on-target shots. 

The Eagles were led by Baker with four goals on 12 shots. Gomez scored one goal and dished two assists. Whitten scored once and assisted on five while also snagging six ground balls. Sophomore Emily Godfrey stopped seven shots on goal for Husson. 
  
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Boston to meet up with Wentworth. The contest is scheduled for a 6:00 PM start.
