#5 Endicott's Scoring Burst Propels Them Over the Corsairs

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth Baseball team jumped ahead to a 3-1 lead after two innings before #5 Endicott College ran up nine more scores as they knocked off UMD, 10-4 on Wednesday. The Corsairs slip to 16-14 overall, while the Gulls continue to improve with a record of 28-5.

After a one-run first inning from Endicott, The Corsairs rallied three runs in the second inning to take a 3-1 lead. The scoring burst came by way of a two-RBI single from senior Chase Stafford. Stafford advanced to second base on the play, and he was able to score on an error off the bat of freshman Jacob Moniz.

After the Corsairs got their lead, the Gulls immediately responded with two goals in the third, evening the score at 3-3. Endicott continued to pour it on, scoring two more in the fourth, and three in the fifth. UMD's offense fell off as Endicott' senior reliever, Ian Parent (1-1), entered the game in the third inning. Parent saw five innings of action, allowing five hits, one run, and striking out three. He also earned his first win of the season as Endicott rolled to a 10-4 victory.

The Corsairs saw a three-hit game from Stafford, who also notched two RBI's and scored two runs. Stafford had a part of each of UMD's four runs. T.J. Keefe and Chris Kustigian each tallied two hits and a run scored. Shouldering the loss on the mound was senior Adam Horowitz (0-1).

For Endicott, the offense was headed by senior Caleb Shpur who went 2-for-4 with two RBI's and scored three times. Sophomore Danny MacDougall added two RBI's on two hits and scored once.

UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Friday when they travel to Plymouth State for a Little East Conference doubleheader with the Panthers. The contests, which were moved due to inclement weather on Saturday, will begin at 11am in Plymouth, N.H.
