LAKEVILLE, Mass. – Behind a solid effort from the entire lineup, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's tennis team claimed a 7-2 victory over Plymouth State University in Little East Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Lakeville Athletic Club. The Corsairs move to 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in conference play, while the Panthers are now 2-2 with an 0-1 mark in LEC action.
Doubles play saw the Corsairs first flight duo of
IsaBella Winter and
Ailey Riddick record an 8-3 victory against Tessa LaBarre and Chloe Ahern to get thing going. At two,
Maddie Gonzalez and
Caroline Lemieux powered their way to an 8-3 win over Alyssa Craigie and Elena Cardoso.
The Panthers gained a point at three as Sarah Asciutto and Camilla Puzio recorded an 8-4 victory over
Zuri Walters and
Saige Croce.
Holding a 2-1 lead, the Corsairs made it a 3-1 margin as Gonzalez bested Craigie from two by a 6-1, 6-0 score. Winter grabbed the next win at the top flight, defeating LaBarre, 6-0, 6-2. Next up was Walters, who earned match point with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Ahern.
From four, Riddick gutted out a 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (7-3) victory against Cardoso, while six saw the Panthers get their second point of the contest as Puzio bested Croce, 6-2, 6-2.
The Corsairs wrapped things up at five as Lemieux earned a 6-2, 7-5 win against Asciutto.
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Clark University at 3:30pm.
