QUINCY, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth women's tennis team shouldered a tough loss on the road at Eastern Nazarene College on Thursday afternoon. The homestanding Lions improve to 7-2 with the 9-0 victory, while the Corsairs suffer just their second loss of the season, moving to 4-2.
In doubles action, the first flight duo of Pamela Gonzalez and Sofia Rojas posted an 8-3 victory against senior captains
IsaBella Winter and
Ailey Riddick. From two, Sara Poletto and H. Colemnares Duno had an 8-3 win against sophomore
Bailey Clarke and senior
Caroline Lemieux, while at three, Katie Cawthorne and Eilym Gomez were 8-1 winners over sophomores
Sajdah Benjamin and
Zuri Walters.
Singles action saw Rojas with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Walters from the first flight. At two, Gonzalez bested Riddick, 6-0, 6-0, while from three Poletto was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Clarke. From four, Cawthorne defeated Lemieux, 6-1, 6-3, as Gomez notched a 6-0, 6-0 victory over rookie
Saige Croce.
Rounding out the action was ENC's Mya Landry, who defeated Corsairs' rookie
Kahlan Keene in a tough-fought, 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 win.
The Corsairs return to action on Saturday, set to host Bridgewater State in LEC action. The match is set to start at 12pm.
