DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's soccer team's meeting with Worcester State ended in a 1-1 draw. It marks the first tie of the season for the Corsairs, who find themselves with a record of 0-5-1 as they look forward to conference play around the corner. For the Lancers, this marks their third tie of the season as now sit at 0-2-3.
The Corsairs were the first to strike, and their score came very early in the contest, when senior captain
Joey Paiva netted his first goal of the season less than two minutes in. The Lancers responded immediately when sophomore Brendan Lower evened the contest less than ten minutes later. With two goals in the first 12 minutes of the contest, it was shaping up to be a high-scoring affair. However, that was not the case as the defenses of these opponents held strong and no more scores came in the rest of the 90 minutes.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Cole Travers earned the start for the Corsairs and had a great day, playing the full 90 minutes and stopped three Lancer's shots-on-goal. The Corsairs out-shot the Lancers in this affair, racking up 15 shots with five on-target while Worcester State tallied four shots-on-target of their 13 total attempts.
UMass Dartmouth men's soccer opens up conference play on Saturday, Sept. 23, when they travel to Southern Maine. The LEC matchup is scheduled for 1pm in Gorham, Maine.
