Corsairs Men's Soccer Edged at UMass Boston

BOSTON, Mass. – On Wednesday afternoon, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's soccer team was defeated, 4-1, by UMass Boston. The Beacons improve to 8-2 with a 1-1 LEC record, while the Corsairs fall to 0-7-1 and remain 0-2 in conference play.

The UMass Boston offense has been firing on all cylinders to start the season, and Wednesday afternoon was no exception. Just inside of the 11th minute of the game, minutes leader Diego Gisholt took a corner kick and put the ball right where Logan Erickson-Potter needed it. Erickson-Potter's second goal in the last two games and third of the season gave the Beacons an early 1-0 advantage.

The quick UMass Boston goal gave way to a defensive struggle between the two squads. Both offenses saw strong opportunities late in the first half and early in the second, but were kept out of the goal for over 45 minutes.

The scoreless streak came to a close in the 62nd minute when the Beacons' second-leading scorer Ryan Lima benefitted from an awkward bounce that put his eighth goal of the season past the UMass Dartmouth goaltender, extending their lead to 2-0.

The late goings of the match saw the flood gates open, with UMB's 2022 leading scorer Josh DeAlmeida's second goal of the season being quickly followed by a UMass Dartmouth response. The Corsairs goal came off the foot of junior Paulo Frias in the 85th minute. Erickson-Potter finished off the game with his second goal of the day in the 88th minute.

For UMass Boston, Erickson-Potter registered the first multi-goal game of his career. Victor Reyes recorded his first victory of the season in net, recording five saves while allowing just one goal.

The Corsairs return home to host the Owls from Keene State on Saturday, September 30. The Little East Conference bout will kick off at 1:00PM.
