Men's Hockey Falls to Panthers in MASCAC Action

Corsairs shoulder tough loss at Plymouth State

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Powered by a goal in each period, including three in the final frame, Plymouth State posted victory over UMass Dartmouth in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action on Saturday evening at Hanaway Rink. The Panthers move to 14-1-2 and 11-0-2 in conference play with the 6-0 win, while the Corsairs saw their six-game winning streak snapped and are now 10-7-0 and 8-5-0 in the MASCAC.

Plymouth State opened the game's scoring in the first period as Rider McCallum found the back of the net just 4:52 into the contest. Severi Sulonen and Cameron Patton earned the assists on the tally. Rookie winger Alex Walker nearly put the Corsairs on the board minutes before the goal, as his back-to-back shots were blocked and then saved, had another chance as sophomore winger Tyler Stewart snapped a shot in that was quickly stopped by Kalle Andersson at 7:36.

UMass Dartmouth had several chances before the end of the first, but Andersson held solid to take a 1-0 lead into the second stanza. The Panthers came out strong in the middle period as Sulonen scored at 8:43 to push it to a 2-0 margin, followed less than two minutes later as Jeromey Rancourt made it a 3-0 advantage at 10:00.

The Corsairs had a strong flurry of action at the 15:10 mark as shots by rookie center Collin Patterson, Walker and grad student winger Michael Perrone were all fired in, but once again, Andersson made the quick stop to keep the visitors off the board.

PSU took advantage on the power play to open the third period, scoring at 1:04 on an Ethan Stuckless tally, adding another score by Connor Tait at 4:13 to make it a 5-0 advantage. The Corsairs gained a power play opportunity of their own in the final three minutes, but despite shots from rookie center Nolan Wutzke and first year winger Doug Doren, the visitors could not solve the Panthers netminder, who finished with 38 saves in the victory.

McKallip finished with 36 stops in the Corsairs defeat.

UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Thursday, hosting Westfield State at 7:30pm at Hetland Arena.
