Women's Track & Field Solid In 2024 Opener

Corsairs finish fifth of eight teams at USM Open II Meet

GORHAM, Maine - The UMass Dartmouth women's track and field team kicked off their 2024 indoor campaign on Saturday, finishing strong at the USM Open II meet, hosted by the University of Southern Maine. The Corsairs compiled 57 points in Saturday's meet, which saw a number of solid performances.

In the day's field events, the Corsairs finished strong, including in the weight throw as four placed in the top-10. Junior Neisha Boiteux paced the effort, posting third overall in the event with a distance of 12.23 meters (40' 1"). Senior Amanda Little earned fifth with a throw of 12.15m (39' 10"), while rookie Emily Hesketh placed eighth with a mark of 10.60 meters (34' 9"). Senior Kate Hockenbury rounded out the efforts in 10th with a throw of 10.12 meters (33' 2").

Hockenbury led the way in the shot put, posting fifth with a distance of 10.36 meters (33; 11.75"), while Boiteux posted sixth in 10.17 meters (33' 4.5"). Hesketh earned eighth with a throw of 9.50 meters (31' 2"), while rookie Ana Tarason was 10th in 9.18 meters (30' 1.5").

Sophomore Isabella Taccogna concluded the field events for the Corsairs, posting second overall in the high jump with a height of 1.52 meters (4' 11.75"). 

On the track, sophomore Petrashea Johnson finished third in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.77, while rookie Allie Kimball placed sixth in 8.00. The 1-mile run saw junior Bee Greenberg earn fifth with a time of 5:41.98, while classmate Julia Latura was ninth in 6:04.78.

Sophomore Grace Russell paced the way in the 400-meter dash, placing fourth in 1:07.55, while rookie Kyla Palmer was fifth in 1:16.42. In the 800-meter run, sophomore Tori Schweitzer took third in 2:46.14, while rookie Sophie Owen was sixth in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 3:49.94.

Kimball went on to place fourth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 29.24. In the relay events, the foursome of Johnson, Taccogna, Palmer and Russell combined for a time of 1:58.72 to finish second in the 4x200, while Latura, rookie Sarah Lynch, Greenberg and Schweitzer combined to place fourth in the 4x800 with a time of 11:26.66.

The Corsairs return to action next Saturday, traveling to Medford, Mass., for the Jumbos Invitational at Tufts University.
