PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Little East Conference has announced its weekly honorees in women's track and field and UMass Dartmouth student-athlete
Elizabeth Fagundes has been recognized as the Rookie Field Athlete of the Week. It marks the first recognition of the season for the freshman.
Fagundes, who hails from New Bedford, Mass., took seventh overall in her collegiate debut of the javelin throw at Wesleyan's J. Elmer Swanson Spring Classic last weekend. She posted a throw of 30.02 meters (98' 6"). She also competed in the 100-meter hurdles on Saturday, taking 17th overall with a personal best time of 19.65.
Currently, Fagundes ranks 98th overall amongst all javelin throwers in NCAA Division III. She is also eighth in the Northeast Region and first overall amongst Little East competitors in the javelin.
The Corsairs men's and women's squads return to action this weekend, hosting the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs Classic. Action begins on Friday at 1pm with several throws competitions with the full slate of action getting underway at 11am on Saturday.
