DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth men's soccer team was edged by UMass Boston, 2-1, during a Little East Conference (LEC) tilt on Wednesday afternoon from Cressy Field. The Corsairs are 0-1-1 in league play while the Beacons picked up their first conference win to improve a to 1-0-1 LEC record.

UMass Boston possessed the ball for a large portion of the first half resulting in nine shooting opportunities for the Beacons. Two of the nine shots bounced off the woodwork while Donahue posted a late save before halftime to keep the score level at 0-0 heading into the break.

Senior Joey Paiva produced his first shot attempt of the afternoon for UMass Dartmouth about five minutes into the second half. At the 60-minute mark, John Arruda settled a cross from Gisholt in the Corsairs penalty box and buried the ball into the back of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 edge.

Donahue denied another pair of shots on-goal by the Beacons as the game entered the closing 15 minutes, respectively. Patrick Garcia doubled the Beacons lead to make it 2-0 with just under 10 minutes remaining in the contest.

At the 85:29 mark, Paiva darted towards the Beacons defensive third while being pressured from behind by a UMass Boston defender. The fifth year forward managed to drill a left footed shot from the edge of the Beacons penalty box into the left top shelf to cut UMass Boston's advantage and make it a 2-1 game.

In the final seconds of the contest, UMass Dartmouth continued to battle resulting in a late scoring chance for Paiva who ripped a deep shot on frame. Ramirez produced the save for UMass Boston to help secure the win by a final score of 2-1.

The Beacons outshot the Corsairs by a 23-8 margin while also holding a 10-5 advantage in shots on-goal. Both teams earned three corner kicks apiece while UMass Dartmouth edged UMass Boston 10-9 in fouls.

Paiva's lone score for the Corsairs marked his third goal of the season. He also led the squad with four total shot attempts while Pacheco posted two shots in the game.

Donahue picked up the loss after recording eight total saves and allowing just two goals during 90 minutes of action. Ramirez ended the afternoon with four stops in net and one goal allowed for the Beacons.
