WORCESTER, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth women's soccer team fell on the road in non-conference action to Worcester State University by a final score of 3-0. The Corsairs are now 5-10-2 on the season while the Lancers improved to a 7-5-3 overall record.
The Lancers opened the first half with an early shot on target to test sophomore goalkeeper
Grace Conti to record her first save of the night. First year
Ashlyn Aguiar posted the first shot of the game for the Corsairs forcing a stop by Lancer goalkeeper Ella Gumienny in the 14
th minute of play.
Shortly after Conti registered two more saves for UMass Dartmouth, first year
Phoebe Gesner ripped a shot on frame that Gumienny was able to save. Worcester State produced four shots in the remaining 15 minutes of the half, two of which Conti saved, while Aguiar tallied a late shot on-goal, but the game stayed knotted at 0-0 heading into halftime.
Both teams exchanged shots to start the second half of the contest featuring shots by graduate student
Ashlyn Rogers and sophomore
Madison Depina. The Lancers broke the scoreless drought as Maddie Breuer found the back of the net at the 64:45 mark to make it 1-0. Less than a minute later, Worcester State doubled their advantage with a score by Ella Tatarczuk.
Tatarczuk sealed the Lancers victory by scoring her second goal of the night in the 75
th minute. Sophomore
Adriana Adames had a late strike in the final minutes of the game, but Worcester State secured the win by a final score of 3-0.
Worcester State outshot UMass Dartmouth by a 21-7 margin and held an 11-4 edge in shots on on-goal. The Lancers also earned three corner kicks in the contest while the Corsairs had one corner kick on the night.
Aguiar ended the game with two shot attempts for the Corsairs, both of which were on frame. Gesner, Depina, Rogers, Adames, and senior
Bella Rita each recorded one shot apiece in the contest.
Conti picked up the loss in net for UMass Dartmouth after posting eight saves and allowing two goals during 67 minutes of action, respectively. First year
Emma Juelis finished the game for the Corsairs allowing one goal.
UMass Dartmouth concludes the 2024 regular season on Friday, Nov. 1 hosting Plymouth State University for the last Little East Conference tilt of the year. The league showdown is scheduled for a 7:00 pm kickoff from Cressy Field.
