DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth women's tennis team came up short against the Vikings of Salem State University on Tuesday afternoon by a final score of 5-4 in non-conference play. The Corsairs dropped to 6-7 overall with the loss while the Vikings improved to a 7-3 record on the season.
The Vikings snagged an early 2-1 lead with victories in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, respectively. Sophomore

Lauren Burgess teamed up in No. 3 doubles edging their Viking counterparts 8-7 with the tiebreaker, 9-7, to give UMass Dartmouth their first point of the match.
Salem State once again jumped out to a 4-2 lead in singles actions securing wins in No. 5 and No. 4 singles. Graduate student
Emma Collings handed her Vikings opponent a 6-1, 6-1 defeat to make it a 4-2 match. Then in No. 6 singles action, graduate student
Kayli Langan defeated Alanna Bonneau 6-4, 6-2 to earn her first collegiate win as a Corsair and narrow the score to 4-3.

Zuri Walters battled against Kenzie McLaren in No. 2 singles spot forcing the match into a third set thanks to a hard fought 6-4 second set win. Walters swept McLaren, 6-0, in the final set to pick up her sixth victory in singles play on the season.
The Vikings, however, sealed their victory after winning in the No. 1 singles to defeat the Corsairs by a final score of 5-4 at home.
UMass Dartmouth has a quick turnaround hosting Suffolk University on Thursday, Oct. 10. The non-conference match is set to begin at 3:00 pm from the Corsairs Tennis Courts.
