GORHAM, Maine – The UMass Dartmouth women's indoor track & field team had a strong showing at the 2024 Little East Conference Championship on Saturday, hosted by the University of Southern Maine. The Corsairs finished seventh overall, while the homestanding Huskies were the overall meet winners.
Rookie
Emily Hesketh paced the way in the field events, earning the silver medal and second overall in the weight throw with a distance of 13.84 meters (45-05.00). Junior Neisah Boiteux was fifth overall with a mark of 13.28 meters (43-07.00), while senior
Amanda Little had a throw of 11.92 meters (39-01.25) – good for 10th overall.
The high jump saw sophomore
Isabella Taccogna post sixth overall, recording a height of 1.46 meters (4-09.50), before going on to finish seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 9.82 meters (32-02.75). In the shot put, senior
Kate Hockenbury was fifth overall with a throw of 10.85 meters (35-07.25), while Boiteux finished seventh with a mark of 10.39 meters (34-01.25).
Also finishing strong in the shot put was Little, who posted a mark of 10.11 meters (33-02.00).
In the track events, the 5000-meters saw junior
Bee Greenberg place fifth overall with a time of 19:14.98. The 55-meter hurdles saw rookie
Briana Caman record sixth with a time of 9.90, while the 55-meter dash was paced by sophomore
Petrashea Johnson, who was 11th in a time of 7.81.
The 4x200 relay saw sophomore
Grace Russell, rookie
Allie Kimball, Caman and Johnson combine to take fourth overall with a mark of 1:56.93. Shifting to the 1-mile run, grad student
Emma Steedman posted fifth with a time of 5:33.26, while the 400-meter dash saw Russell post fourth in 1:05.16, while Kimball was fifth in 1:06.13.
Sophomore
Tori Schweitzer posted ninth in the 800-meter run, while in the 1,000-meters, junior
Julia Latura was fifth overall in 3:21.38. Rookie
Sophie Owen also finished strong, posting 10th in 3:40.34.
Greenberg went on to place fourth overall in the 3000-meter run, crossing in a time of 11:10.96, while rookie
Sarah Lynch was seventh overall in 11:42.77. The 4x400-relay team of Russell, Kimball, Caman and rookie
Kyla Palmer placed fourth overall in a time of 4:27.59, while the 4x800-relay of Steedman, Latura, Schweitzer and sophomore
Anya Aadland was sixth in 10:52.92.
Qualified members of the Corsairs squad return to action next Sunday at the 2024 DIII New England Championships. The event, hosted at the New Balance Track in Boston, will feature those individuals who have posted qualifying marks for the championship.
