BOSTON, Mass. – Powered by an offensive showcase, where six different Corsairs scored in double-figures, the UMass Dartmouth men's basketball team overwhelmed UMass Boston, 101-85, in Little East action on Wednesday. The win saw the Corsairs move to 13-9 overall and 10-3 in the LEC. The Beacons drop to 6-17 with a 5-9 mark in conference play.
The Corsairs saw six players score in double-figures, paced by senior
Isaac Percy's 20 points on 9 for 15 from the floor. Percy also hauled in six rebounds and was credited for three steals. Sophomore
Nic Boyd scored 18 points, with 16 coming in the first half alone. Boyd went 6 for 9 from the field and 5 for 7 from deep. Sophomore
Josh Lopes put up an impactful 14 points, four rebounds and seven assists. Sophomore
Ryan Flauto continues his hot streak, recording his third straight game with over 10 points, matching his career-best 14 points on a perfect 6 for 6 from the floor. Senior Michael Eurquahart Jr. made his presence felt on the defensive end, tallying three steals and three blocked shots in addition to his seven points and seven rebounds.
UMass Boston, paced throughout by Connor Walden, saw the sophomore forward score 19 points and eight rebounds while going 6 for 13 from the floor and 3 for 4 from deep. Junior Emanuel Zayas followed him up with 18 points. Sophomore Hector Perez and senior Bobby Joy each tallied 11 points.
After a high-scoring first half, UMass Dartmouth entered the second half with a 55-48 lead. Boyd caught fire in the opening half from deep, nailing 5-of-7 three-point attempts in the first half and went into the break with 16 points. Percy and Flauto also scored in double-figures in the first half, helping the Corsairs enter halftime with a 7-point advantage.
Both squads ramped up the defensive effort early in the second half, going two and a half minutes before the first field goal of the half was made by Zancan. At the 12:58 mark, UMB senior Bobby Joy converted on an and-one that cut the Corsair lead down to three points. UMass Dartmouth responded with a 10-0 run, featuring two three-pointers from sophomore
John Marcille, that stretched their lead to 76-63 with 10:52 to go.
It seemed that everything was falling for the Corsairs in the winding minutes of the half, with shot after shot falling as UMD stretched their lead to 22 points with 3:12 remaining. The Corsairs cruised through the rest of the way, going on to claim their 10
th conference victory of the season, defeating UMass Boston, 101-85.
The Corsairs return to the Tripp Center on Saturday, hosting Southern Maine in Little East action. Saturday is also Senior Day, so the seniors of the UMass Dartmouth men's basketball team will be honored prior to the 3:00pm tipoff.
