BOSTON, Mass. - The UMass Dartmouth men's and women's track & field teams were in action on day one of the 2024 NEICAAA Open New England Championships, hosted at The TRACK at New Balance. Three student-athletes from the men's squad and four from the women's side were in action.
Junior
Joseph Uwanogho competed in the weight throw, posting seventh overall in the event, which featured multi-divisional competition. He posted a throw of 16.36 meters (53' 8.25") on the afternoon. Senior
Scott McDonough was also in action, finishing 12th overall in the long jump with a distance of 6.63 meters (21' 9"), while grad student
Vinny Gardner competed in the 1,000-meter run preliminaries. Despite a solid 2:35.77 time in the event, he finished just outside the top-eight to advance with ninth overall.
Rounding out the day was the women's Distance Medley Relay, which saw grad student
Emma Steedman, sophomore
Grace Russell and juniors
Julia Latura and
Bee Greenberg combine for a time of 13:16.46 - which was good for fifth overall.
The women's squad is currently 14th of 19 teams, while the men are sitting 17th of 19 squads. There is more action to come tomorrow as several student-athletes will continue action at the Open New Englands, while several others head to Medford, Mass., taking part in the Tufts University National Qualifier. Action at Open NE's begins at 9:15am with the trials of the 60-meter hurdles, while Tufts action gets underway at 12pm.
