MILTON, Mass. – Powered by seven goals from rookie
Maddy Allen, the UMass Dartmouth women's lacrosse team notched a 19-11 victory at Curry College on Monday afternoon. The win moves the Corsairs to 2-2 on the young season, while the Colonels are now 4-3 overall.
Trailing by a 3-1 margin to open the first quarter, the Corsairs turned the tied in the second stanza with six goals to make it a 7-7 game after the first 30 minutes of the contest. Back-to-back scores from senior captain

The Corsairs took the lead on a score by senior midfielder and captain
Widline Thomas, but a pair of tallies from the homestanding Colonels pushed Curry back out to the lead. The two teams traded goals once again with Curry holding the 7-6 lead with 36 seconds left, but a last second tally from senior attack
Hannah Mitus sent the squad's into halftime with the 7-7 deadlock.
Out of the intermission, the offense continued to pour on as Allen buried a feed from Sanchez Alvarez, which was countered by the home team as Grayson Goolgasian dropped in a score at 12:16 to bring it even once again at 8-8. Thomas fired in another tally just over a minute later and the Colonels once again answered, but a score from Allen with 9:20 to go in the third saw the Corsairs with a 10-9 lead.
In the final 4:37 of the frame, the Corsairs expanded their advantage as Allen scored. That tally was followed up by Sanchez Alvarez, while rookie attack
Jennifer Lins added her first of the contest. Allen went on to add her sixth goal of the game with 14 seconds remaining as UMass Dartmouth carried a 14-10 advantage into the final quarter of the game.
The final stanza saw the Corsairs lead continue to widen as Allen tipped in her sixth of the game at the 12:19 mark. Lins added her second of the game at 10:38 with the man-up advantage as she buried a pass from classmate
Lily Nees. UMass Dartmouth capitalized on another Colonels card soon after with Sanchez Alvarez finding the back of the net yet again for the 17-10 lead with 9:21 to play.
In the remaining 5:37, Sanchez Alvarez drove in her sixth of the contest, sending a feed from Thomas into the Curry goal, while the seventh tally of the game by Allen came with 40 seconds remaining to seal the victory.
The Corsairs, who owned a 31-24 advantage in shots (26-19 on goal), saw Allen finish with seven goals and an assist. She added a ground ball with six draw controls and a caused turnover in the contest. Sanchez Alvarez chipped in with six goals and a game-high four assists, adding four ground balls and three caused turnovers and four draw controls, while Thomas had two goals and two assists with four draws. Kelsie Couto earned the victory, stopping eight shots.
For Curry, Natalie Keenan notched four goals with three ground balls and a caused turnover, while Goolgasian had three goals with a helper. Ellie Hardman added three goals as well, while Casey Conneely added a goal. Alexa Puopolo shouldered the loss in net, stopping seven shots.
It was an even 14-14 on draw controls for the contest, while the Corsairs owned the 24-16 margin in ground balls. Additionally, UMass Dartmouth held a strong 16-6 edge in caused turnovers for the game.
The Corsairs return to action on Wednesday, welcoming Massachusetts Maritime Academy to Cressy Field for a 7pm tilt.
