UMass Dartmouth rally late falls short in 14-7 loss to Lyons

DARTMOUTH, Mass.  - UMass Dartmouth scored seven runs over the final three innings, but were unable to complete the comeback as they fell to Wheaton College in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon. With the 14-7 win, the Lyons move to 5-3 overall, while the Corsairs are now 5-9 on the season.

Kevin Matos opened the scoring for Wheaton with a three-run homer to left center, the junior's first of the season. Matos went 2-for-4 on the day, with a game-high four RBIs. The Lyons took a 4-0 lead after the first inning and extended that to 5-0 in the third and 9-0 after five.

Junior first baseman Jake SanAntonio got the Corsairs on the board with a double down the left field line, scoring senior third baseman Andrew Possi from first base. SanAntonio came around to score later on a single by senior designated hitter Tre Coleman.

After a five-run seventh inning for the Lyons, the Corsairs responded with three of their own on singles by junior center fielder Scott Cromack, Possi and SanAntonio. Grad student and right fielder Joe Muzio had the Corsairs' only home run of the day, a solo shot to center in the bottom of the ninth.

For the Lyons, fifth-year shortstop Mike Maher went 3-for-6 with a pair of RBIs, while junior first baseman Timmy Wagner was 3-for-5.

The Corsairs offense was led by Muzio, who went 3-for-5 with an RBI and Coleman, who was 3-for-4 with an RBI. SanAntonio's pair of RBIs led the hosts.
