Corsairs Track & Field Posts Solid Efforts at Open NE's & Tufts

Multiple student-athletes competed at two sites on Saturday

BOSTON/MEDFORD, Mass. – It was a solid day of action for the UMass Dartmouth men's and women's track and field teams, who competed at two different sites on Saturday. The Corsairs saw several student-athletes in action at the NEICAAA Open New England Championships – hosted at The TRACK at New Balance, while others competed at the Tufts University National Qualifier.
 
At Open New Englands, senior Cameron Rodgers competed in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing third overall with a time of 8.26. Junior Bryan Obidike posted eighth overall in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.02. He also notched a personal record in the preliminaries as he recorded a time of 6.99.
 
Senior Jake Paris posted 17th overall in the 3,000-meters with a time of 8:42.18. In the relays, the foursome of grad student Vinny Gardner, rookies James Carriere and Cameron Thompson, along with grad student John Ziegler combined for a time of 8:12.33 in the 4x800 relay. That time was good for seventh overall.
 
Rounding out the action at Open NE's was the 4x400 relay of sophomore Elan Ben Yosef, junior Nico LaCortiglia, sophomore James Christie and rookie RJ Stone. The group combined for a time of 3:32.37 – good for 10th overall.
 
Action shifted to the Tufts National Qualifier as junior Joseph Uwanogho finished fourth overall in the weight throw with a distance of 16.87 meters (55' 4.25"), while sophomore Vincenzo Videtta also took fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.87 meters (6' 1.5").
 
Rookie Emily Hesketh posted eighth overall in the women's weight throw with a mark of 13.46 meters (44' 2"), while senior Scott McDonough finished second overall in the long jump with a distance of 6.75 meters (22' 1.75"). Rookie Justin Andrade also finished strong, posting fifth in the long jump with a mark of 6.52 meters (21' 4.75").
 
Rodgers also competed at Tufts, taking seventh overall in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.56.
 
The Corsairs now wait to find out the field for the 2024 NCAA Indoor National Championships, taking place on March 8-9 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va. UMass Dartmouth will then open the Outdoor Season on March 30 at home with the annual Corsair Classic.
