Women's Track & Field Finishes Sixth at Gravel Invite

Solid efforts pace Corsairs at Westfield State

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth women's track and field team returned to action with a number of solid performances on Saturday, competing at the 2024 Jerry Gravel Invitational at Westfield State. The Corsairs finished sixth overall, while Utica won the team event.
 
The 100-meter dash saw sophomore Petrashea Johnson earn ninth overall with a time of 13.71, while in the 400-meter dash, saw rookie Allie Kimball post sixth with a time of 1:06.87. Fellow rookie Briana Caman finished 10th overall in 1:12.40, while classmate Kyla Palmer was 11th in 1:16.34.
 
In the 100-meter hurdles, Caman powered to sixth overall in a time of 19.25, while sophomore Grace Russell won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:12.17. Additionally, the foursome of Kimball, Caman, sophomore Isabella Taccogna and Johnson earned fifth overall in the 4x100-meter relay with a mark of 1:06.42.
 
The field events saw senior Kate Hockenbury post third overall with a throw of 10.65 meters (34-11.25) in the shot put. Rookie Emily Hesketh placed fifth in the event with a throw of 10.41 meters (34-02.00), while classmate Ana Tarason was 11th overall with a throw of 9.32 meters (30-07.00).
 
Also in the shot put, senior Amanda Little finished 16th with a mark of 8.98 meters (29-05.50), while rookie Abby O'Leary was 17th with a throw of 8.95 meters (29-04.50).
 
The discus saw Hesketh earn fourth overall with a distance of 33.39 meters (109-06), while Little posted sixth with a throw of 31.48 meters (103-03) and sophomore Lauren Donlan finished 12th overall with a mark of 25.80 meters (84-08).
 
The hammer throw event saw Hesketh take third overall once again, posting a throw of 44.67 meters (146-07), while junior Mia Mejia-Maalouf was ninth with a throw of 36.45 meters (119-07). Little recorded a throw of 36.02 meters (118-02) for 10th, while Hockenbury was 14th with a distance of 31.78 meters (104-03). Senior Alexa Lemieux rounded out the hammer performances with a mark of 29.06 meters (95-04) for 15th.
 
In the javelin throw, the Corsairs saw Mejia-Maalouf posted fourth overall with a distance of 27.39 meters (89-10). Lemieux finished 10th with a mark of 24.20 meters (79-05), while Hockenbury and Russell were 12th (22.64m; 74-03) and 13th (22.03m; 72-03), respectively.
 
UMass Dartmouth returns to action next Saturday, traveling to Tufts University for the Sunshine Classic.
