Corsairs Power to Fourth at Tufts Sunshine Classic

Several strong efforts pace Women's Track & Field at Tufts

SOMERVILLE, Mass. - Behind a number of solid performances, the UMass Dartmouth women's track & field team finished fourth of seven teams at Saturday's Tufts Sunshine Classic. 

In the track events, Petrashea Johnson posted 11th overall in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.68. The Corsairs then saw Allie Kimball post 10th overall in the 200-meter dash, hitting a mark of 28.80. Next up in the 400-meter dash, Tori Schweitzer earned fifth overall, crossing the line with a time of 1:08.35.

The 800-meter run saw Sophie Owen earn 11th with a time of 2:55.02, while Kyla Palmer posted 12th with a mark of 2:57.50. Isabella Gerardi closed out the strong finishes in 13th with a time of 3:04.77. The 1500-meter run saw Julia Latura take sixth overall, crossing the line in 5:16.34, while Sarah Lynch was 12th in 5:26.01.

In the 5000-meter run, Bee Greenberg had an outstanding effort, earning runner-up with a mark of 20:25.20, while in the 10000-meter run, Anya Aadland posted fourth overall with a time of 42:25.21. In the 400-meter hurdles, Grace Russell took third overall in 1:10.94, while in the 3000-meter steeplechase, Emma Steedman posted fourth in 12:21.16.

The Corsairs 4x100 meter relay of Kimball, Russell, Briana Caman and Johnson posted second overall, while in the 4x400 relay, the foursome of Steedman, Latura, Schweitzer and Owen were first in a time of 4:46.81.

In the field events, the high jump saw Isabella Taccogna earn fifth in 1.47 meters (4-09.75), while the triple jump saw Taccogna place seventh overall with a mark of 9.83 meters (32-03.00). In the shot put, Kate Hockenbury took second overall, posting a throw of 10.90 meters (35-09.25), while Emily Hesketh was sixth with a throw of 10.06 meters (33-00.25). Amanda Little was seventh overall with a distance of 10.05 meters (32-11.75).

The discus throw saw Hesketh take third overall with a mark of 33.66 meters (110-05), while Little earned 10th overall with a throw of 29.15 meters (95-08). It was a big field for the hammer throw, paced by Hesketh who posted 10th overall with a throw of 35.66 meters (117-00).

Little had a throw of 31.53 meters (103-05) for 15th, while Alexa Lemieux posted 15th with a mark of 30.68 meters (100-08). Mia Mejia-Maalouf was 17th with a throw of 29.82 meters (97-10), while Lauren Donlan and Kate Hockenbury were 17th (28.81m - 94-06) and 18th (27.98m - 91-09). Ana Tarason finished 20th overall (24.59m - 80-08). 

Finally, the javelin throw saw Mejia-Maalouf post fifth overall with a throw of 27.43 meters (90-00). Russell took seventh overall (26.13 meters - 85-09), while Hockenbury was 10th (25.11m - 82-04). Lemieux rounded out the action in 11th (23.99m - 78-08). 

The Corsairs return to action next Saturday when they host the 2024 Little East Outdoor Championship. Action begins at 10am in the field events, 10:45am for the track events.
